Healthy chocolate cake recipe

A chocolate cake is a cake cooked using chocolate or cocoa as the main ingredient. The ingredients are combined in a mixing bowl before being poured into a cake pan and baked in the oven. The cake is then taken out from the oven and allowed to cool. Chocolate cake is a type of cake that can be purchased from any cake shop or baked at home. It is a sweet food that should not be on a regular basis because the ingredients used may be quite unhealthy if taken regularly.

Cakes and desserts are the biggest enemies of anyone who is attempting to maintain a healthy diet. It’s impossible to resist the delectable combination of sugar, cream and butter. So, if you want to make a healthy chocolate cake, you might want to swap out some of the ingredients, such as ordinary flour with protein flour or coconut flour.

Ingredients:

Cake:

·         3 large eggs

·         1 cup maple or honey syrup

·         2 cups plain or Greek yoghurt (3% + fat) ·         1 tablespoon baking powder

·         1 teaspoon  pure vanilla extract

·         1/4 teaspoon salt

·         1/2 cup cocoa powder

·         2 cups whole wheat flour (can be converted into protein flour or coconut flour)

Icing/ Top decoration:

·         1 1/2 cups plain Greek yoghurt (2% + fat)

·         1/3 cup maple syrup

·         1/3 cup cocoa powder

·         1/2 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

How to cook:

1.    Place two cake pans down on top of two pieces of parchment paper. Draw a circle around it with a pencil, then cut each circle out with scissors. Place the pieces of paper in each cake pan and spray with cooking oil.

2.    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large bowl, add eggs and maple syrup, using an electric mixer for 30 seconds or until well blended.

3.    Add yoghurt, baking powder, vanilla, salt and beat with a mixer for 30 seconds.

4.    Add the cocoa powder and use a beater to mix the ingredients well. Add the flour and stir until smooth. Avoid over mixing and mix until you get a smooth consistency.

5.    Divide the dough into two parts and place it in the previously prepared cake pan. Bake on the bottom rack for 27 minutes or until the toothpick poked into the center of the cake comes out clean.

6.    While the cake is baking, prepare frosting or decoration on top of the cake.  Add yoghurt, maple syrup, cocoa powder, and vanilla in a large bowl, then mix well.

7.    Let the mixture cool first in the fridge before you place it on top of the cake.

8.    Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes. Using a spatula, remove the sides of each cake from the pan and invert the cake on a plate or flat base. Remove the parchment paper, and place it at the bottom on a cooling rack.

9.    Let the cake cool completely before decorating it with icing.

10. When the cake is ready to be decorated, use a long knife (fillet), and cut each cake to the appropriate size. Place the bottom layer and spread 1/4 of the frosting on top.

11. Repeat the same steps with the remaining layers of cake. Decorate the cake to your liking but make sure you don’t use unhealthy ingredients.
